Job Overview

BLES Biochemicals is seeking a dependable Lavage Technician/Truck Driver on a casual basis to support our raw material collection operations. Reporting directly to the Lavage Supervisor, you will be responsible for operating the lavage truck, transporting equipment between BLES Biochemicals in London, ON, and Cargill in Guelph, ON, and performing bovine raw material collection in compliance with strict safety and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) standards.

This role involves overnight shifts (1 to 10 shifts monthly, typically 1 shift per week with fluctuating days). BLES will arrange and cover the cost of a hotel room for the night preceding the lavage shift. Approximate work hours at Cargill are 4:00 AM – 4:00 PM in Guelph.

Key Responsibilities

  • Raw Material Collection: Master and execute the three core lavage roles: trachea cutting, tube insertion, and tube removal.
  • Vehicle Operation & Logistics: Collect the lavage truck from BLES Biochemicals in London, ON, transport equipment to Cargill in Guelph, ON, and safely return the truck and equipment to London following the shift.
  • Safety & Compliance: Maintain safe operation of the lavage truck in compliance with regional transportation statutes, BLES driving policies, corporate guidelines, and scheduled timelines.
  • GMP & SOP Adherence: Understand and strictly adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) established by BLES Biochemicals and Cargill.
  • Safety Protocols: Comply with all safety directives from floor managers and trainers, maintaining constant vigilance throughout the shift.
  • Teamwork & Punctuality: Demonstrate consistent attendance, punctuality, and effective communication while fostering a respectful environment at both BLES Biochemicals and Cargill facilities.
  • Training: Participate in scheduled training programs hosted by Cargill and BLES Biochemicals.

Qualification & Experience

  • Licensing: Valid Ontario Class "G" Driver’s License with a clean driving record.
  • Language Skills: Proficient reading and writing skills in English.
  • Physical Requirements: Must be physically fit for heavy lifting and standing for extended periods (4:00 AM – 4:00 PM shift duration).
  • Work Environment Readiness: Must be comfortable working in an abattoir environment, including standing exposure to the sights and smells typical of such a facility.
